GutMed is the name of Southland Endoscopy and Gastroenterology. This is a specialty practice which covers any medical conditions relating to the gut and liver.

The includes any part of the body that is involved in the ingestion & digestion of food – from the moment it enters your mouth to when it exits at the other end.

It includes problems related to other organs that are also involved – such as the gallbladder, pancreas and liver.

Dr Judith Collett is a medical specialist who trained in New Zealand and Australia and who specialises in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (liver diseases). She performs endoscopy which includes gastroscopy and colonoscopy, and her areas of expertise include bowel cancer screening, Coeliac disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the treatment of Hepatitis B & C.

She has worked throughout New Zealand, spending many years at
Christchurch Hospital and introduced capsule endoscopy there. She also has expertise in motility problems including oesophageal manometry and pH testing.

Dr Collett is a respected member of the New Zealand Society of Gastroenterology and has sat on professional and government committees.
